2019 'O' Week for The Alliance

It’s that time of year again when we welcome all new doctors commencing their employment as Interns in NSW.
The 2019 Orientation week is from 21-25 January.
The ASMOF/AMA Alliance will be out in force visiting 22 hospitals during O Week. Alliance staff and many active members will be out and about to talk to interns about the benefits of joining the Alliance. As you know the benefits are many and varied.
New Interns will likely face the challenges of a demanding workplace culture and managing their work/life balance with many being paid for the first time, so understanding their rights and entitlements is essential.
The success that ASMOF has had on behalf of JMOs and the Alliance regarding pay issues has been outstanding with the recovery of wages currently sitting at over $9 million. This figure will continues to grow at around $5,000.00 per week being recovered. ASMOF has recently had a win against HNELHD when we identified that meal breaks on after hours shifts were not being paid. We have now identified the same issue and contacted WNSWLHD, MNCLHD and NNSWLHD in order to recover underpayments for JMOs in these LHD’s. You can watch this space for more details regarding this.
If you meet a new Intern over the next few weeks say hi and ask them to join the ASMOF/AMA Alliance.
