2020 Christmas message

Dear Member,

2020 has been one of the challenging years that many of us have ever experienced. In NSW our medical workforce have done an extraordinary job of keeping the community safe during this pandemic, from those on the frontline at our hospitals, to the extraordinary efforts of our pathologists and infection control experts working hard behind the scenes. We are all too aware that our members have gone to work this year in conditions that have been at times unsafe- due to PPE shortages, lack of fit testing and contradictory advice (more on this in our article on the Auditors Report).

It is unfortunate that we are ending the year facing the threat of yet another outbreak, and our thoughts are with our members living and working in the Northern Beaches. Our Union will continue to fight for our members safety and fair work conditions in these extraordinary circumstances. We will be meeting with the Ministry to discuss the latest developments on Monday.

I want to thank you for being part of our Union and I wish you the very best for the festive season. We are proud to be your union, and proud to stand up for you and for our public health system. This year our team have managed over 1600 matters from our members, and we are proud of the successes that we have been able to achieve for members, including improved conditions during COVID-19, safer working hours and rosters for doctors in training, improved office space, advocacy on parental leave and countless individual wins we have had for our members.

Our hard-working staff of the union will take a short and well-earned break. The ASMOF office will be closed from Christmas day and will reopen at 9am Monday 4 January. During this time, we won’t be able to attend to your inquiry. But if your matter is urgent (e.g. your employment has been terminated, your workplace is unsafe to attend due to COVID-19) and cannot wait until 4 January, you may leave a message at 9212 6900 and your issue will be attended to.

I wish you and your families a safe and restful festive season and a wonderful Christmas and New Year and look forward to bringing you a stronger ASMOF in 2021.
