A WIN for Fair Treatment in Dubbo

13-Nov-2020

On 2 October we asked members to help in the campaign to get the NSW Government to commitment money to build the Dubbo drug rehabilitation centre. On Monday this week the NSW Treasurer announced that $7.5million will be allocated to building the Dubbo facility and providing recurring funding to ensure its operation. We have been asked to thank all the ASMOF members who took action to help get the Dubbo treatment centre over the line.

WE WON Fair Treatment for Dubbo!

Just announced - recurrent funding for the much-needed drug rehab facility in Dubbo has been secured in the NSW State Budget!

On November 9 NSW Treasurer, The Hon. Dom Perrottet joined Dubbo State MP, Dugald Saunders, and Deputy Premier, John Barilaro, to announce that $7.5million will be allocated to building the Dubbo facility and providing recurring funding to ensure its operation.

The Treasurer today personally acknowledged the work of the Fair Treatment Campaign, alongside the Dubbo community, in winning the funding for this much-needed service.

To each of you who wrote letters and emails, made phone calls and met with their MPs on this issue – THANK YOU. Your efforts have won #FairTreatmentForDubbo!

This win is a great reminder of what we can achieve when we work together and show our elected representatives that people in the community, including our not-for-profit sector, care about this issue!

There’s still much to do to ensure that every person in NSW has access to treatment and that the law is changed so personal drug use is treated as a health issue. We see this win as an important step along the path towards more evidence-based, compassionate drug policy. We look forward to your continued support in forthcoming events and actions.
