ACTU Executive Resolution: The Registered Organisations Commission (ROC) and political interference in the autonomy of unions

Ever since the Fair Work (Registered Organisations) Amendment Bill 2014 was first debated in Parliament it was clear the proposed legislation was fundamentally about one thing – trying to undermine unions. It was never about good governance. For example, under the legislation a Union could face fines of up to $105,000 if they are late in financial reports.

The recent events involving the AWU confirms the Registered Organisations Commission (ROC), set up under the legislation, is being used by the Turnbull Government to conduct a political witch-hunt not just against unions but also the Opposition.

There can be no hiding from the fact that ROC is a political organisation and exists to further the interests of the Government.
