Area of Need Policy Directive Review

22-May-2020

ASMOF has been invited to participate in the review of the Area of Need policy directive (PD2013_003), which is below for your reference. The current policy is seven years old and the Ministry has plans to reconsider the effectiveness of the Area of Need Program.

The Area of Need program assists employers in NSW who are experiencing difficulty recruiting medical practitioners with specialist registration. Under the Program employers can recruit suitably qualified international medical graduates to vacant positions.

Distribution Priority Areas (DPA) for General Practice roles and Districts of Workforce Shortage (DWS) arrangements are not within the scope of this review, since they are managed by the Australian Government Department of Health.

ASMOF Members are requested to review the draft and provide written feedback to allocation@asmof.org.au. by Friday 29th May. ASMOF will consolidate Members’ feedback and provide it to the Ministry. It is vital that members review and comment on the draft to ensure ASMOF is able to provide comprehensive and well-informed feedback on behalf of members.
