Changes to Medicare Billing- Your Views

You may be aware that changes to a range of Medicare items are proposed as part of the Department of Health’s comprehensive Review of the MBS.

The Report from the Specialist and Consultant Physician Consultation Clinical Committee recommends significant changes which will potentially impact ASMOF member’s practice and income. This includes removing a broad range of attendance items and moving to a time-tiered payment system across specialties.

The AMA have developed a survey to gauge doctors’ views on these changes and have given ASMOF permission to replicate this survey in order to identify issues which affect our membership:

We strongly encourage you to complete the survey so that we can represent your views in ASMOF’s formal response to the Department of Health. Thank you to our members who have completed the survey so far, there is a very mixed response to most changes and many important concerns have been raised.

As well as changes to attendance items, the Report proposes removing telehealth loading and complex care plan items, and introducing changes to data collection, MHR incentive payments and a new framework for case conferences. Further details on recommendations are contained within the survey.

The survey will remain open until the 5 th June 2019. Please note that survey results will be shared with the AMA. You are also welcome to provide comments or questions directly to our Policy Officer by e-mail
