Draft Code of Practice on managing the risks to psychological health

18-Sep-2020

SafeWork NSW is seeking your feedback on a draft Code of Practice on managing the risks to psychological health.

No one wants to see their workers harmed just because they did their job. Yet, very few NSW businesses say they are confident that they know what they must do under the NSW Work Health and Safety laws and how to control workplace risks to psychological health, so their staff don’t get hurt.

Absenteeism, presenteeism (working at reduced capacity due to ill-health) and workers’ compensation claims due to mental illness are estimated to cost NSW employers $2.8 billion per year. (Australian Health Ministers’ Advisory Council 2013; Yu & Glozier 2017).

This is an opportunity to have your say on a new Code of Practice to help businesses achieve psychologically healthy and safe workplaces, for all workers and all workplaces. The draft code will help businesses manage work health and safety risks related to psychological health.
