Election Notice for ASMOF NSW Branch vacant positions

The attached information has been received from the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) regarding the election for NSW branch vacant positions.

There are 9 vacant positions on the NSW Branch and if you were a financial member of ASMOF (NSW) on 9 December 2016, you are eligible to vote and nominate for a position.

Nominations must be in writing and comply with the registered rules of the Union.

You may nominate any time from 16 December 2016 and not later than 5:00 pm 6 January 2017.

If a ballot is necessary, voting material will be posted on 27 January 2017 to eligible members at the address shown in the Union’s records. Members should notify ASMOF of any change of address. The ballot will close at 10:00 am AEDT on 17 February 2017.

What is required of a NSW Branch Councillor?

The duties of a NSW Branch Councillor are governed by the Fair Work (Registered Organisations) Act 2009 and the Rules of the Union.

The general duties of a Branch Councillor are in relation to the financial management of the Union.  The general duties concern acting with care and diligence and acting in good faith.

The key functions of a Branch Councillor are:

  • the management of the affairs of the organisation or branch;
  • the determination of policy for the organisation or branch;
  • the making, alteration or rescission of rules of the organisation or branch;
  • the enforcement of rules of the organisation or branch, or the performance of functions in relation to the enforcement of such rules

 

The NSW Branch Council meets four times a year, usually prior to a NSW State Council meeting. The meeting with be on the third Tuesday night of the relevant month.
