Emergency Departments overwhelmed


Dr Clare Skinner, president-elect of the Australian College of Emergency Medicine and ASMOF member, has said that overwhelmed EDs were the ‘end product of years of dysfunction in the health system’.

The impacts of the pandemic and an ageing population have also put massive strain on the system. Dr Skinner spoke out to ABC News, who reported yesterday that EDs were overcapacity and falling behind targets.

Dr Skinner has called for more staff, more beds and “whole of system overhaul” to deal with the challenges of ageing patients and more complex cases.
