Emergency Physicians’ Allowance

15-Dec-2017

As was previously advised agreement to continue the ED Allowance until June 2019 was confirmed, however some slight changes of wording in the draft Policy Directive were proposed. Those changes were considered on review to be of no practical consequence to affect the application of the allowance.

ASMOF has received advice that the relevant Policy Directive giving effect to the extension of the ED Allowance has not yet been formally issued, but will be in the near future. I note the revised version of the Policy Directive referred to in the Ministry’s Letter was not attached and is not available at the time of writing. The Ministry did not accede to ASMOF’s request to extend the application of the Allowance to 2020.

ASMOF has also received several phone calls regarding the appropriate application form, as a version published in January 2017 has been provided to some members. This particular version (now superseded following ASMOF representations) implied that Long Service Leave and Maternity Leave may be excluded when calculating the ED Allowance. The most recent version , together with the Health Share Fact Sheet and correspondence from the Ministry confirming that the ED Allowance will be paid during periods of paid authorised leave are also attached for your reference.
