Family-Friendly Work Practices


As part of the Fair Work Commission’s four yearly review of Modern Awards the ACTU has put forward a claim, on behalf of all Australian Unions, for a new Modern Award term to give workers with documented caring responsibilities (for children, elders, or other family members) the right to flexibility in their working hours

The  Centre for Future Work Director Jim Stanford recently appeared before the Fair Work Commission as an expert witness in this hearing and Dr. Stanford’s report has been posted by the Commission here; the other submissions to the hearing also paint a comprehensive picture of the importance of work-life balance to an effective, productive labour market. 

We will await the FWC’s decision on the matter in the New Year with great anticipation!
