Have you experienced a work-related injury or illness?

ASMOF has received correspondence from the Ministry seeking feedback on its draft Recovery and Return to Work (R&RTW) Procedure. This new R&RTW Procedure will replace the current Injury Management and Return to Work document. The purpose of the R&RTW Procedure is to provide guidance on the actions required where a worker sustains a work-related injury or illness, as well as management of declined or non-work-related injury or illness.

The new procedure has been updated to align with the latest State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) Guidelines for Claiming Worker’s Compensation (2020). Other key proposed changes include:

  • Change of nomenclature to reflect Agency’s Recover@Work
  • Inclusion of decision-making flowchart for managing psychological injuries and investigating work related injury claims.
  • Inclusion of a communication strategy for managing complex claims (Early Stakeholder Intervention Process).
  • Inclusion of guidance for remote work injuries.
  • Omission of Journey and Recess Claims (Travelling to and From Work) in line with updated workers compensation scheme.

We are currently reviewing the draft changes in order to formulate our feedback to the Ministry, and we would like to hear from members who have experienced a work-related injury or illness. If you would like to share your experience or make comments please send them to: asmof@asmof.org.au by COB Wednesday, 9 June 2021.
