International Women's Day 2020

International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day to celebrate the social, economic and political achievements of women. This year the UN Women Australia’s theme is Generation Equality. Generation Equality is a call to action to join forces across generations, to create a world where every girl and woman has equal opportunities to fulfil their full potential. Equal access to education and income are central to levelling the playing field for women around the world.

The Doctors’ Union supports the celebration of women each year which gives us the opportunity to reflect on the achievements we have reached in the fight for women’s rights and gender equality. It also reinvigorates us as we look to make more progress in 2020!

The Union Movement has a very proud history of fighting for equal pay, equal access to job opportunities, paid parental leave, job security, flexible work hours, family and community service leave, lactation breaks and in 2018 achieved 10 days paid domestic violence leave for public sector employees through the “We won’t wait” campaign.

Please come to celebrate International Women’s Day 2020 with us!
