Junior Medical Officers (JMO) Incremental Progression

After you progress from intern to resident you should automatically increment through the relevant pay scale once you have been at your current grade for one year and have worked 1982 hours. This is also subject to satisfactory performance. The process is the same for Registrars.

Over the last week we have been contacted by members who have not been paid their increment even though they have met the criteria for incremental progression. But when asked to explain themselves HealthShare has said that the members did not meet the requisite hours to increment to the next level.

ASMOF is disputing this and has written to both the Ministry of Health and HealthShare and demanded that this problem is fixed urgently.

So, what may have caused the mistake?

There are two possible scenarios:

  • When a JMO has rotated to across LHDs mid-pay cycle the system may not have picked up the previous week or the previous LHD has not submitted the relevant information in a timely manner, or
  • There has been system error.

What can you do if you haven’t been paid your increment?

  • Make sure that you have been at your grade for one year and have worked the required 1982 hours
  • Contact your Medical Workforce Unit or JMO unit and request a priority payment.
  • Contact ASMOF so we can chase up both the LHD and HealthShare and request a priority payment.
  • Pass this information onto your work colleagues and tell them to join the ASMOF/AMA Alliance.
