Mandatory Training

06-Oct-2017

Members may recall a working group was established in 2015 to review Mandatory Training requirements for senior and junior medical officers.  At the time, the working group agreed to a phased implementation of Mandatory Training requirements for senior and junior medical officers.

Phase 1 modules were subsequently agreed on by the working group and they were released in September 2015.  Phase 1 modules remain in place (see link below to view these modules).

At a recent meeting convened among representatives from the Ministry, HETI and ASMOF, Phase 2 Mandatory Training requirements were discussed. These being: Work health & Safety for Medical Officers; Infection Prevention for Medical Officers; Safety & Quality for Medical officers; Violence Prevention & Management for Medical officers; and Care Co-ordination for Medical Officers.  ASMOF had sought additional information from the Ministry (so that the ASMOF State Council may consider the modules’ appropriateness) and this was provided by the Ministry following the meeting.

At its monthly meeting held last month, the ASMOF State Council considered these five (5) modules under Phase 2 and the following were noted:

  • “Work health & Safety for Medical Officers;
  • Infection Prevention for Medical Officers;
  • Safety & Quality for Medical officers;
  • Violence Prevention & Management for Medical officers; and
  • Care Co-ordination for Medical Officers

could reasonably be required to be Mandatory Training Requirements to be completed by 31/03/2018.  It was also noted that the Violence Prevention & Management for Medical officers is a general overview, and does not equip staff in high risk areas.”

ASMOF has accordingly written back to the Ministry informing them of the above position of the ASMOF State Council.

ASMOF understands that Phase 2 will commence from 9 October 2017, and all medical officers (senior and junior) will be requested to complete the modules by 31 March 2018.

Please note the modules under Phase 2 are to be completed once only.  The estimated time that it will to take to complete is 10 mins to an hour.
