Members concerned about social media policy

Thanks to all members who provided feedback on NSW Health's draft Use of Social Media Policy. Today we submitted our feedback on the Policy, which includes many of the comments we received from members.

We have argued that the Policy must be considered in the broader political context, which in recent times has trended towards secrecy within the Australian Government and suppression of the media. We raised our concerns that there is a growing trend to reprimand employees for their private social media use, particularly where employees may be expressing valid concerns about their Government employers, such as the state of public health in NSW.

Our submission highlighted doctors' right to privacy and right to advocate and has made several recommendations for change where we deemed the Policy to be overly restrictive. You can read our full response here. We will keep you updated on the progress with the Policy.
