PGY1/PGY2 Increment/Registration - Update

24-Feb-2017

Members will recall from previous Friday News that many 2016 interns had there RMO 1 increments withheld due to delays by AHPRA in processing their Registration.

ASMOF was quick to escalate this matter to the Ministry of Health (MOH) for resolution and requested that they discuss the matter with AHPRA and ensure that any delay in processing the Registration Certificates would not cause any prejudice to our members.

AHPRA has said it will not backdate the Registration Certificate. This means registration will take effect from the date that the certificate is signed and emailed to the relevant intern. This would mean affected interns would only progress to RMO classification and rate of pay at that point in time.

This is unacceptable and the prejudice to affected members is clear. We will now write to AHPRA to demand they reverse thus decision. We will also write to the respective colleges to ensure that no JMO is disadvantaged from getting onto a college program.

The good news is that as s result of ASMOF's advocacy the MOH has committed that all the affected 2016 Interns will be reclassified to RMO1 immediately with retrospective payment from 6 February 2017 (ie the beginning of the new clinical year) This means they will not be financially disadvantaged.

The MOH is writing to each LHD DMS advising them to ensure they progress this matter from their end. Reclassification  is still dependent on the papers being submitted within the relevant time frame and registration being met.

We have also contacted Healthshare to ensure they are reclassifying the interns to RMO 1 and processing the payments, including retrospective payment, as a priority.
