Reproductive Health Care Reform Bill 2019

The ASMOF State Council, the elected governing body of the union recently voted to support the Reproductive Health Care Reform Bill 2019 which is currently being debated in the NSW parliament.

This means that ASMOF supports the decriminalising of abortion in New South Wales and recognising that abortion should be regulated as a health procedure and not by the criminal law.

The decision as to whether or not to have an abortion, or to continue a pregnancy, is multifactorial and is between a woman and her medical care provider.

The Bill would repeal provisions of the Crimes Act 1900 (NSW) and create a new system for medical supervision of abortions in New South Wales.

ASMOF respects the diversity of opinion among our members and we acknowledge that the vote of Council was not unanimous.
