STOP PRESS - Registered nurses in the NSW nursing homes

05-May-2017

Further to our previous update, yesterday morning the NSW Upper House unanimously passed the Private Members bill proposed by Mr Robert Brown MLC , (Shooters, Fishers and Farmers party) to ensure that the NSW Public Health Act retain a legally enforceable requirement for any facility with high care residents to have a minimum of one Registered Nurse 24/7.

The Government supported this bill at the last minute. This is incredible shift in their position.

This needs to now go to the lower house, probably in the next six weeks or so. But if the government supports it in one house, we would hope they will also support it in the other house.

Congratulations to the Nurses Union on their success!
