Update: Stop the Americanisation of Public Health

As members may be aware, the resignation of The Hon. Jillian Skinner MP led to a cabinet reshuffle. Ms Skinner has been replaced by Brad Hazzard MP.

Yesterday, Mr Hazzard, and new Premier Gladys Berejyklian, paid a visit to Wyong and Gosford Hospital to meet with staff and discuss issues both locally and state-wide.

ASMOF was fortunate enough to have a one-on-one discussion with Mr Hazzard about a range of issues, including the privatisation of hospitals across the state. Mr Hazzard noted that he does not believe in privatisation for the sake of privatisation. In other words, he is not committed to the policy on the basis of ideology alone. His intention is to consult with key stakeholders, including our Doctors, and make an assessment on the evidence about what model will provide the safest patient care for the community.

ASMOF has a delegation of Doctors from ISLHD heading up to Parliament House on 22 February to meet with Mr Hazzard and other MPS to discuss the impacts that privatisation will have on the patients at Shellharbour Hospital. We will update members following that meeting.
