URGENT INVITE: Rally to Save Shellharbour/Port Kembla Hospitals

27-Oct-2017

It’s crunch time.

The Kiama, Shellharbour and Port Kembla communities have been waiting for months for an answer to a single question:

Will their public hospitals be privatised?

After a year of threatening to privatise, the government is split on a decision. Local Kiama MP Gareth Ward has gone against his government and is standing with health workers and the local community to support a fully public hospital.

We need to know if the Government is with us or against us.

We are waiting for an announcement by mid-November. Now is the time to join together to send a clear message to the Premier, Gladys Berejiklian, that Doctors want fully funded public hospitals in the Illawarra!

To do that, the Combined Health Unions have organised a rally on 5 November 2017, 12:00 pm at Coronation Park, Kiama Surf Beach.

We are asking you, our doctors, to show your support alongside your nurses, allied health workers, and community members.

We also have a simple ask, when you come along to the rally, can you bring a friend? They could be a fellow Doctor, a colleague in health, a partner or a friend.

The only way we can enact change to protect the training and education of our JMOs is with your overarching support – and its already working!

As members will recall the Government has backflipped in Wyong, Goulburn and Bowral and promised those communities fully funded public hospitals!

ASMOF Staff and Members look forward to seeing you there.

More rally specific information available on the Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/events/533276667007018

Feel free to email damienl@asmof.org.au, or call the ASMOF Office on 9212 6900 for further information.

*For doctors concerned about appearing at the rally and generating conflict with your employer, this is a community rally, and as long as you are appearing in your own time (i.e. not at work), you are protected. Moreover, if approached by the media we advise you to speak as a member of the community or an ASMOF Representative.
