As members will be aware, recently the Government announced it was backflipping on privatising Wyong and Bowral Hospital, and committing to fully fund the redevelopment of these hospitals.

This is an incredible victory for our Doctors, Nurses and allied health staff, along with the patients in the community the hospital cares for.

To celebrate and say thanks to all our members for their commitment to protecting our world class public health system, ASMOF, and the other Health Unions, are hosting events in Wyong and Bowral on Sunday 6 August.

Wyong Celebrations will be held from 1:00-3:00pm at the Morrie Breen Oval, Wallarah Rd, Kanwal. There will be a BBQ, with jumping castles and face painting for the kids, as well as some live music.

Bowral Celebrations will be between 12:30-3:30pm, at the Bowral Bowling Club, 40 Sheppard St, Bowral. There will be a light lunch provided, and plenty of activities for kids.

There will also be speeches from our Executive Director Andrew Holland, and other union leaders.

We’d love to see you all there, and celebrate our victory through all our hard work during this campaign.

As you may also be aware, Maitland Hospital and Shellharbour are not safe from the threat of privatisation yet.

The Government decided to privatise Maitland Hospital with a Not For Profit organisation. Consequently, ASMOF, and the other health unions, have organised a planning meeting to discuss the future strategies to push back against the Government’s decision.

The meeting is being held on Monday 7th August, from 4pm to 5.30pm at the Family Inn Hotel in High Street, Maitland (opposite the hospital). Finger food and drinks will be provided.

We have a number of special guests from the Bowral and Wyong Campaign who are willing to share their expertise on winning the fight against privatising Bowral and Wyong Hospitals.

This is a very important meeting, so please come along.

The Doctors’ Union will continue to campaign for a properly funded public Hospital in Maitland and Shellharbour which will promote and protect the conditions of our members and which will ensure that our junior doctors are properly trained.

If you would like to get involved in any way, please contact Industrial Officer Damien Lee via damienl@asmof.org.au, or alternatively call the ASMOF Office on 9212 6900.
