Doctors will have to prove they caught COVID at work

In May last year, emergency protections were introduced to support essential workers who contract COVID-19.

The protections ensured that doctors and other essential workers would not have to go through bureaucratic hoops to prove they contracted the disease at work. This is critical because we know essential workers are most likely to contract COVID-19 at work.

NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet is now attempting to repeal section 19B of the Workers Compensation Act which provides this protection, reportedly at the instigation of the small business lobby.

ASMOF joins other Unions in strongly opposing this backflip on protections for our members and other essential workers. Some MPs are still undecided as to whether they will support this change- we are asking our members to write to them urgently to let them know what you think.
